1 April  20:00 The last time this superb band came before us it was to play the music of their mentor, Buck Clayton. Now they’re tackling the work of Duke Ellington, easily the most prolific composer in jazz. Which of his myriad pieces will they choose to play? The writer and broadcaster Alyn Shipton co-leads the band from the back, you might say, as he’s the bassist, with the always excellent Bobby Worth alongside on drums and Martin Litton on piano to evoke the great man himself. There have been a few changes to the line-up since our original announcement, but the front-liners are all top-drawer, starting with Ian Smith and Menno Daams on trumpet, Robert Fowler on alto sax, Karen Sharp on tenor sax and last man standing, trombonist Winston Rollins.
