The Rotary Club of Pinner have announced the formation of a Rotary Interact Club at Haydon School in Eastcote. The head, staff and pupils attended the presentation of the official Charter recognising the foundation of the Club by Councillor John Hensley, the Mayor of Hillingdon on 9th May 2017
Interact is a club for 11 to 18 year olds, usually formed in a school, loosely based on how a Rotary club works.  They have to undertake at least two projects a year to raise funds for good causes. 
The Rotary club has a rota of five members who have agreed to be present from time to time at an Interact meeting.  The meetings take place between 13.30 and 14.00 and they are run by the Interact members as it is ‘their’ club not ‘ours’.  Rotarians and a teacher are only present to point them in the right direction if it is felt to be necessary.
The Interact club has already undertaken two projects and from these given almost £400 in total to charities of their choice.  These were a school in Burundi and the Red Nose Day appeal.  The initial membership was just under ten but it has already grown to fifteen.
The mayor chatted with many members of the group before making the presentation to Niamh O’Grady, the first club president.  Most of the Interact club were at the event and also saw her given the club president’s badge and collar.  Each member received an Interact pin from the mayor.
Also present were the Mayoress, Diane Hensley, Head Teacher Robert Jones, Rotary District Governor Joy Arnott, Rotary Club President Barbara Rees, President Elect Malcolm Mitchell and Past President Nigel Shock.
