It was really great to be in Pinner on the 1 November 2014 when Mary's Living & Giving Shop was  opened by Mary Portas heself. There was quite a crowd gathered outside and they were entertained first by clowns. Mary then explained that she had really enjoyed Pinner as a teenager and remembered with affection going to the Pinner Fair as a young person. The shop is all about ethical retailing and volunteers are very much welcomed, plus gifts to keep the shop stocked. It is all in aid of an important cause with proceeds going to the charity Save the Children

The fifteenth Mary's Living & Giving Shop for Save the Children opened up its doors for the first time on Saturday 1 November 2014 in Pinner High Street. The Pinner shop was packed to the rafters with fabulous donations from premium and luxury brands and retailers such as Alexander McQueen, Ally Capellino, Bella Freud, Caramel Baby & Child, Emma Cook, House of Holland, Peter Pilotto, MiH and  Zandra Rhodes.
Local architect and stay at home dad, Mr Anthony Leyland, took on the challenge of creating the concept for this newest shop.  Inspired by Pinner’s historic annual street fair, the theme of the shop is ‘Fairground’.  Garments hang from shelving suspended from trapeze-inspired chains and links, house of horror mirrors and wonky cupboards adorn the walls, and colourful stripey flooring gives a nod to the modern day Big Top circuses of today.Festoon lighting and traditional Pinner Fair images circa1930s add an air of authenticity to the functional but fun shopping experience.
At 12 noon, Mary Portas, together with 12 year old Yazzi Gokcemen and 3 year old Jeanie Leyland cut the ribbon and announced the shop open. Throughout the opening weekend, shoppers had first pick of the items for sale.
In addition to cosy slippers and pyjamas from Ruby & Ed, there were  graphic printed cushions from Timorous Beasties, Ali Miller china tea sets (as featured on the recent BBC version of Sherlock Holmes), fashion-forward pieces from  Mother of Pearl and Ted Baker, stunning handbags from premium luxury leather goods brand Aspinal of London and Kipling, and winter boots and shoes from brands such as Steve Madden, Seven Boot Lane and Penelope Chilvers.
And for those shoppers who are starting early and looking for that perfect Christmas gift, then a limited edition scarf that has been exclusively designed by Yazzi Gokcemen was on sale on the day. Every penny of profit goes to Save the Children who help to feed, clothe and educate children in the world’s poorest countries
