Metropolitan Tutors is a local tuition agency providing one-to-one tuition for all subjects, ages and levels in your home.
Wanting to provide affordable and local tuition, Pinner residents James and Camilla Smoker founded Metropolitan Tutors in 2013. Since graduating with first-class honours from Cambridge and Birmingham City universities respectively, they have been personally tutoring for over 10 years alongside their extensive local team of tutors whom they have introduced to many satisfied students.
For your peace of mind, all of our tutors are required to have an up-to-date Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). Furthermore, we personally interview every tutor and take up two professional references to ensure they meet our rigorous standards.
We require our tutors to have an in-depth knowledge of their subject area, but all of our tutors also have a calm, patient demeanour, the ability to analyse what's really going on in a student's mind, the skill to explain a topic in terms they can understand, and the desire to inspire students through creative lessons and their own passion for
their subject.
In many cases a big part of a tutor's job is to boost confidence in a student who feels weak in the classroom, socially or academically - a small amount of empowerment and encouragement really can rectify a multitude of academic problems. Therefore, we also value tutors who are able to build relationships of trust with their students.
A free, in-depth initial consultation will gather information about a student's personality, interests, strengths and weaknesses, establish targets for tuition, and decide on the right sort of tutor for you. We can also offer expert advice about everything from schools to tuition strategy.
Based on what we have discovered, we will contact a range of suitable tutors from our extensive local network to check their availability. You are welcome to see CVs and references, and you can rest assured that we have verified every tutor's CRB/DBS check and qualifications, having personally interviewed every tutor. We can also source a tutor according to your budget, with typical rates ranging from £30-£40 per hour.
You can speak to any tutor over the phone for as long as you like, free of charge and with no obligation, getting to know them before booking a first session.
With no minimum commitment and no up-front obligation, you can arrange sessions directly with your tutor on a week-by-week basis. However, we are always on hand to offer guidance, support and cover whenever necessary.
