3rd Pinner (St. Luke’s ) Scout Group

On the 6th October 2015 3rd Pinner (St. Luke’s ) Scout Group Celebrated 75 years.

On Sunday 27th September St Luke’s parish church in Pinner celebrated 75 years of the St Luke’s Scout group with a service of Thanksgiving in Church followed by a celebratory tea party in the Hall.

“It was during the war that some one decided to start Scouting here at St. Luke’s in Pinner and now 75 years later, we are giving thanks to God.” The opening words from Canon Robert Plourde at the beginning of a Thanksgiving
Service which was attended by current Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Leaders, parents and friends and many ex members over the years including Kevin Phaure who was a member of the Scout Troop in the early 50s. Robert Baden Powell’s last letter to scouts everywhere was read out by Sue Girvan
who has been a leader with the Group since 1972.

A large tea party in the Church Hall was held where photographs through the ages were on display along with memorabilia collected over the years; amongst this was a Bible signed by the members of the Scout Troop in 1943
and presented to a Joe Fitzgibbon who was leaving to enter the Seminary.

John Brooker, the Group Chairman, welcomed every one, Wills Bartholomew, the Group Scout Leader, read out a personal letter to the Group from Bears Grylls (Chief Scout) and Paul Harris, the District Commissioner, presented
awards to leaders for service to the Group and Ben Hovey a member of the Troop received a Jack Petchey Award.

A fantastic tea had been prepared by some “mums” with homemade cakes, sandwiches etc. and “mugs” of tea in specially commissioned “3rd Pinner (St.
Luke’s) 75th Anniversary mugs. The hall had been decorated with bunting
made by the Beaver Colony during their recent meetings.

The afternoon ended with the cutting of a very large cake by the two youngest members of the Group and by Kevin Phaure-the eldest ex member present. Many memories were evoked during the afternoon and sounds of “ See you at
the 100th “ could be heard as people walked away.
