Nick Hurd M.P latest Newsletter

Extracts from Nick Hurd's latest newsletter: HS2 Update The issue of the proposed High Speed Rail line which would link London and Birmingham as well as Manchester and Leeds, continues to be a matter of serious concern and I continue to represent and put forward your views on this issue. I also recently accompanied a group of children and their parents from the constituency to 10 Downing Street, where they presented a Ruislip Against HS2, Children’s Petition. Europe As many of you may be aware, the Prime Minister vetoed a treaty change on the European Union at the summit last Friday. I support the Prime Minister in his decision and believe he is doing his best to protect the interests of the City of London and the UK within Europe. Supporting the constituency Youth Council November saw the creation of Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner’s first Youth Council. Eighteen students from nine schools across the constituency joined together to form a Youth Council with the aim of representing the views of young people in the area. The highly successful inaugural meeting took place in the Houses of Parliament with the students engaging in vibrant discussion and putting forward a wide variety of interesting thoughts and ideas. Kickz The end of 2011 brought some good news for the constituency. I have long been a supporter of the Kickz football project run in Ruislip and Harefield by the Police and Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust. The scheme, which takes teenagers off the street at key times of the week and onto the football pitch has been extremely successful over the past few years. With over 70 young people taking part across the two projects the police have seen a dramatic difference in each locality. | Heathfield School - Sunday Times Parent Power Ranking |
| Sunday Times Parent Power ranks Heathfield Junior School, Pinner. Heathfield Junior School was delighted, but not surprised, to be listed once again in the recently published Sunday Times Parent Power listings. Heathfield Junior School is one of the top sixty schools in the country based on Key Stage 2 SATs results in English and Mathematics. SATs are the only externally marked examinations for primary age pupils and, as such, parents can rely on them to indicate the high level of pupil achievement. At Heathfield, girls throughout the junior school, including Year 6 when SATs are taken, follow a broad and balanced curriculum both in lesson time and as extra-curricular activities. They learn all National Curriculum subjects enhanced by learning a range of languages including French, Spanish and Mandarin, reflecting the school’s philosophy of preparing tomorrow’s leaders. Outside the classroom, girls have opportunities to extend their learning through many clubs, sporting fixtures and musical activities. They routinely win all swimming fixtures against other schools and can be seen performing in many local musical events. This is excellent preparation for moving into Heathfield’s Senior school. Carole McCulloch, Head of Heathfield Junior School said ‘Being a pupil at Heathfield is a happy, exciting experience where every girl’s individual talents are known and nurtured, every girl is known to every member of staff and every girl achieves the very best that she can. This result is a testament to our dedication of extending excellence.’ Heathfield School is part of the Girls’ Day School Trust, a group of 24 independent schools and two academies throughout England and Wales. The ethos of the GDST is to ensure all pupils reach their full academic potential. GDST students also learn that independence of thought, ambition, hard work and self-discipline are important, but that ties of family, friendship and community need are equally important if they are to become fulfilled and balanced individuals. For further information, please contact Bernadette Ryder Marketing and Communications Officer on 020 8307 5560 Heathfield School website |
