Businesses bite back at illegal charity collections

 traders-unite-

Report coutesy of "Pinner News"
Businesses in the village have joined forces to warn the public about the stream of illegal charity collectors targeting Pinner.
Stores and offices in the High Street have put posters in their windows advising people that charity collectors need a permit to legally rattle their tins and buckets.
As reported last month in Your Pinner News unlawful collections have taken place in and around the High Street by characters dressed as Superman and a crocodile. These outfits inspired the campaign’s name – The Bite Back.
Kara Lines, of High Street wallpaper and fabrics shop, Lines of Pinner, said: “The campaign and the posters have been created to raise public awareness that these people are collecting unlawfully and should have permits issued by Harrow Council or the Metropolitan police.
“It infuriates me that these people ignore the laws and turn up collecting so often. They are damaging the efforts of lawful charity collections.”
Elsie Morton, 22, of Malpas Drive, said: “I think this is a great idea and shows that the local businesses care about the village. In the past my mum has given money to these people especially when my young nieces are with her as the colourful costumes attract children’s attention. Good on the businesses for getting involved and taking a stand.”

Pinner Sketch Club Preview evening -Updated report

sketch-club-aug-2012

Invited guests from across Harrow and beyond flocked to the Private View of Pinner Sketch Club’s 70th Summer Exhibition at Pinner Parish Church Hall on Friday night and were treated to a stunning display of visual art by the club’s many talented artists. Chairman Dr Elizabeth James welcomed this year’s guest judge, the well known practicing professional artist Roy Rodgers, President of Harrow Art Society, who had a distinguished career as a sculptor in the film industry for 18 years and as a Senior Lecturer at Harrow College of Art.
Roy awarded the prestigious Kenneth Grimmett Award to Desmond Sloane for his acrylic painting ‘Out of a Misty Dream’.
He also selected the work of six artists for commendations: ‘St. Marks’s Venice’, a watercolour by Bal Athalaye, ‘Boys’ an oil painting by Jeanne Holder, ‘St John’s Remembered’ a pastel by Anne Pletts, ‘Brian’ an oil painting by Danny Green, ‘Entwined’ an acrylic painting by Ann Kopka and ‘Scene 1’ an acrylic painting by Linda Zelin.
The Friends of Pinner Parish Church prize was awarded to Brian Collins for his oil painting ‘Seascape 1’.
The Joan Wilkerson Award, presented annually by Joan Wilkerson, former President of Pinner Sketch Club, was awarded to Eva Cowan for her sculpture ‘Angel’.
The Summer Exhibition at Pinner Parish Church Hall, Church Lane, at the top of Pinner High Street and the Mini Exhibition at the Attic Gallery upstairs at Lines, 26 High Street Pinner continue every day until Saturday 01 September from 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, 12 noon to 6pm on Sundays. Admission is free. Art in the Village window displays also continue until 01 September.

Restoration Project underway

pinner parish church renovations aug 2012

Scaffolding has been erected around enabling commencement of phase one of the restoration project. Below is an extract from there web pages.
The roof tiles date back to around 1880, and are about at the end of their lives. The lead roofing, which also acts as a gutter, is in need of replacement – as it ages, leadwork is prone to cracking which would let water in, potentially rotting the woodwork underneath.
Some of the stonework which forms the parapet, is badly weathered and needs repair, and the pointing between the stone blocks needs replacing.
The cast iron rainwater downpipe appears to be cracked – so water is leaking out, and as well as giving us a hanging garden, is seeping into the structure of the tower wall giving us damp problems inside the church.
The stonework around the West door is quite badly weathered, as is some of the other tower stonework.
The tile roof on the nave, chancel and transepts dates back to about 1880 and needs replacing. More deatails of the project can be found at their website

Andrew Pearce property consultants opening new office

Andrew Pearce property consultants are delighted to announce the opening of their new office located at 10 High Street, Pinner. Andrew Pearce says ‘The new premises will afford the Company the additional office space for our rapidly expanding staff levels to cater for the growing demand for our professional services’. Andrew Pearce is arguably the most experienced estate agent in Pinner. He entered the profession in 1969 and qualified as a Surveyor four years later. Andrew is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and also a member of the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation. My father before me was a Chartered Surveyor," he says. "I was really interested in the technical side of property so it was a natural step to follow in the family tradition. Over forty years on, Andrew still loves the buzz and the challenge of a vibrant estate agency office and helping people with their property matters, whether that is buying and selling homes or services for the commercial sector.
He is very 'hands on' and handles many valuations and sales in Pinner personally. Over the years I have worked through the full spectrum of economic scenarios, from deep recession and the three day week in the 1970s to the property booms of the mid '80s and late '90s. Experiencing the many ups and downs of the property market first-hand teaches you to take a considered view. It has given me a very practical approach to property matters which helps immensely when I am giving advice and guidance to clients.
Andrew Pearce Estate Agents and Charted Surveyors help people buy and sell homes in Pinner and Pinner Village and the surrounding areas of Hatch End, Eastcote, Harrow and Northwood.
From our estate office in the centre of Pinner we offer a bespoke service to families, couples and individuals who live - or aspire to live - in our beautiful neighbourhood. Whatever your lifestyle, we’ll help you find the home that's perfect for you - whether you want to buy or rent. And because we're Pinner people too, we have in-depth knowledge about the local property market, the excellent level of education in Pinner and what it's like to live here.
