Your Pinner News magazine uncovers illegal charity collections in village
Pinner targeted by illegal charity collectors Police have taken action against illegal ‘charity’ collectors who are targeting villagers’ generosity. At around 12.30 on Monday, July 23, officers swooped on a male dressed as Superman who was claiming to be collecting for a charity called LSZ Trust while standing in Bishops Walk. Police confirmed the man did not have permission to be collecting there and was acting illegally before telling him to leave. He had earlier been moved on by the management of Sainsbury’s because he had been trying to collect, again without permission, at the entrance to Barters Walk. Since May the village has attracted charity collectors who wear fancy dress such as the Superman outfit and a crocodile costume. Other charities which have broken the law by collecting without the correct licences include Families for Survival UK and Give me a Hug. A Sainsbury's spokesman confirmed the colourful collectors do not have its permission. He said: “We have reported the individuals involved to both the police and to the Charity Commission in an attempt to stop them returning to our store.” Harrow Council said it can only move the collectors if they are on council owned land and without the necessary permissions. A spokesperson for Pinner Rotary Club which carries out legal charity collections within the village said: “These collectors damage the reputation of legitimate charities. They have no permission and collect so regularly that it causes the public to wary of all collections. People need to be aware that these characters do not have the correct licences to carry out street collections and do not deserve donations.” Your Pinner News tracked down one of LSZ Trust’s directors, Adam Abraham, who claimed: “We did not know this collector had gone to Pinner. He didn’t have permission and we will make sure this doesn’t happen again.” Give me a Hug and Families for Survival UK did not respond to our attempts to contact them. Got a story or issue in the village you want us to investigate contact Jerry on 020 8429 6884. By Jerry Lyons Your Pinner News is delivered to 6000 homes as of August 2012 - www.pinnernews.co.uk

Are you looking for independent?
Heath, Beauty and Fitness professionals in the local area, then I am Looking is where you should be looking. It was conceived more than three years ago, as Justine was frustrated at the lack of sport and fitness classes, local to her, being advertised online. At the time she was briefly a beauty therapist working from home (between looking after two young children). Justine often found it hard to market and promote her business, cheaply. Eventually, she had a eureka moment and following some lengthy local research found that there were plenty of health, beauty and fitness professionals looking for a new outlet to advertise their business which led to the creation of I am Looking
